# Introduction

## Network Setup

> ℹ️ In order for the Control Unit to connect to the Host Machine, the Host Machine must have a **Static IPv4 address **set. **Recommended Address**:
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ **IP address: 192.168.1.7**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ **Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Please refer to the “Setting a Static IP address” section from the hardware guide for more information on how to edit a windows IP address.

# Ground Station UI elements

Cordel Ground Station has 3 UI sections, they are shown in [figure 21](#).

> ℹ️ The lidar and GNSS indicators can take up to 2 minuets to reach the capture state and may show warning icons until then.

1. **Data Capture** **Statistics** are overlaid onto the map and are highlighted by the red boxes in [figure 21](#). They provide information on the current capture status.
  1. Net: the Net icon shows **green **when there is a connection between the Control Unit and **red **when there is not. The transfer rate between Host Machine and the Control Unit is shown underneath.
  2. Cam: This icon indicates whether there is a video capture device connected. When the icon is **green**, the device is detected and recording, a **blue **icon indicates it is not recording.
  3. Stor: This icon indicates the total storage space free on the Control Unit. The Control Units have 250GB of on board storage. When recording is stopped it will be transferred to the Host Machine for data storage if connected. The Control Unit uses a FIFO queue in order to decide what missions to delete when storage is low.
  4. GNSS: This icon indicates the current type of GNSS lock, this has been simplified to:
    1. Green- position lock.
    2. yellow- partial lock.
    3. red- no lock/error.
  5. Lid: this icon indicates the lidar status, **green** indicates ready to capture, **red **indicates it is still starting.
  6. Cap: this icon indicates whether the Control Unit is recording the mission.
2. **Capture Vehicle Statistics **are on the left side of the menu bar on the bottom of the screen and are highlighted in blue in [figure 21](#).
3. The** Data Interaction **section is highlighted in green in [figure 21](#).
  1. Download Data.
  2. Manual Start/Stop.
  3. Ensure Spinning Lidar.

# Data Capture Workflow

> ℹ️ On Automatic Capture mode, these steps only need to be followed once.

> ⚠️ On **Manual Capture** mode, steps 3-4 must be repeated for each data block captured.

## Start-up Ground Station

Open Cordel Ground Station.

> ⚠️ Without an internet connection, the map tiles will not load. Attempting to zoom in on any region of the map will not increase the display quality.

There are 2 different Ground Station launch states.

If the Control Unit is not connected or there is no connection to the Host Machine, the screen in [figure 22](#) will be shown:

> Macro (scroll-pagebreak)

If the Control Unit is in it’s start-up sequence and has a connection to the host machine, the screen in [figure 23](#)** **will be shown:

## Verify Initial start-up is complete

When the Control Unit has completed it’s initial start-up sequence, the screen in [figure 24](#) will be shown.

Once the Lidar is ready and the GNSS is reporting it has a position lock (green across the board) the rig is ready to begin data capture.

## Commence Data Capture

There are 2 methods to begin data capture.

a. Begin the mission by moving. The Control Unit will detect movement and will start/stop the recording based in vehicle velocity.

b. The Manual Start/Stop recording in the Data Interaction region of the main screen.

> ⚠️ The Manual Start/Stop button sets the Control Unit to manual mode, and will not automatically start recording based on vehicle velocity until the Control Unit is reset.

When recording has started the Cap icon will change colour to green and the icons will update to show the current recording data health/status (recording file sizes and times). [Figure 25](#) gives an example screen during recording.

## Save Mission to Control Unit

There are 2 conditions that will stop the automatic recording:

a. The vehicle stop moving, capture will begin again after movement is detected.

b. 15 minutes have passed. To make data files manageable, capture will create a new data block and start capturing again.

When capture is stopped it will be downloaded from the Control Unit to the Host Machine. A progress bar will appear at the top of the screen (shown in [figure 26](#)) indicating the download status. If in capture is in the automated capture mode this occurs simultaneously to data recording.

> ℹ️ When a capture block is completed, the camera icon will turn red while a new video file to be created.

# Data Download

This section will cover the transfer of data from the Control Unit to the Host Machine.

> ℹ️ By default, Cordel Ground Station saves mission files to a sub folder in the %AppData% directory.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ To quickly access this, open a file explorer window and paste the following file path after inserting your username.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ C:\Users\**<USERNAME>**\AppData\Local\MavSystem\Data

> ℹ️ The Control Unit will continue recording even if there is no host machine/Corridor LiDAR Capture System running. This means if for some reason the host machine was to become disconnected to the Control Unit, the Control Unit would continue logging.

On start-up Ground Station will compare the files on the Control Unit to those on the Host Machine. If there are files on the Control Unit that aren’t present on the host machine it will open the data download panel shown in [figure 27](#). This can also be opened by pressing the “Download Data” button under the data interaction section.

Recordings are separated into folders based on capture date. Individual recordings are separated by the UTC time the recording began using the format “Mon-DD HHMMSS” Month-Day UTC-time“

# Cordel Website Data Health Monitoring

Cordel Ground Station is paired with the Corridor website to enable remote tracking of data health.

The main dashboard for the web portal is shown in [figure 28](#).

Rover location are shown on the map using coloured disks.

- **Grey** disks represent a rover that is not actively recording at it’s last know location.
- **Red** disks represent a rover that is actively recording.

> Macro (scroll-pagebreak)

Clicking on a recording rover will display open a UI element on the bottom of the page as shown in [figure 29](#).
