## Mounting Considerations

### LiDAR

To ensure an accurate LiDAR data capture, please install the Wave-Rugged in line with the following Field of View considerations:

- Orientation: the Wave-Rugged must be mounted at a known, level angle, with the LiDAR facing outwards.
- Position: the Wave-Rugged should be installed and aligned to the vehicle centreline, with the sensor directly above the rail centerline.
- Height to rail: measure the vertical distance from the roof to the top surface of the rail. This measurement helps determine the angle required for the LiDAR system installation above the rail. A minimum of height 2m is required.

> ⚠️ To prevent LiDAR occlusion, ensure that there are no obstacles that could interfere with the LiDAR beam. Even partial blockage of the LiDAR can result in inaccurate data capture.

### GNSS Antenna

The Wave Rugged CR-100-S features an embedded GNSS antenna on the very top of the unit that requires clear sky view in order to retain an accurate GPS fix. This is defined as being 15° degrees from the horizontal.

The Wave-Rugged CR-100-D forgoes the top-mounted embedded GNSS antenna in favour of two externally mounted GNSS antennas. In this case, both the external antennas require a clear sky view in order to retain an accurate GPS fix.

When mounting the two external antenna’s, they must be aligned to the vehicle centreline and there must be a distance of at least 1m between them.

The antennas must be rigidly tied to the LiDAR sensor.

### Cabling

- Exterior cable entry point: explore potential locations on the train vehicle exterior where power and ethernet cables can enter the vehicle to connect to the interior components. Consider different entry points and measure the dimensions and clearance required to accommodate the cables and connectors.
- Cable length: assess the potential cable length needed to establish the connection between the exterior-mounted LiDAR system and the interior equipment. Consider different routing options and measure the distance from the exterior cable entry point to the desired interior location.
- Cable routing and pathway: evaluate potential pathways for routing the cables from the exterior to the interior. Consider different routing options based on accessibility, clearance, and avoiding obstacles. Measure the distance and clearance requirements along each potential route, accounting for any bends or potential obstructions.
- Cable protection: consider potential cable protection measures, such as conduit or cable trays, to safeguard the cables from environmental factors and potential damage.
- Interior cable entry point: identify potential locations within the train vehicle interior where the cables could enter and connect to other components. Evaluate different entry points and measure the dimensions and clearance needed for the cable entry point, ensuring proper cable connection and management within the interior space.

## Typical Installation Location

## Permanent Mounting

This installation format is typically employed for long-term or permanent installations. The mounting bracket is either welded or bolted to the vehicle and remains in place for the entire service term, unlikely to be moved or disassembled. An example of a fixed bracket design is shown below.

## Flexible Mounting

In this setup, aluminum extrusions are paired with right-angle brackets, offering a flexible and straightforward mounting solution. The right-angle brackets can be easily adjusted for mechanical alignment and securely tightened once the unit is positioned as desired. An example of a flexible bracket design is shown below.
