## What is an API? 

API's are interfaces that define how pieces of software interact with each other. They control requests for data between programs, how those requests are made, and the data formats used to send information between the two systems. 

## How to generate and API key in Cordel Connect

1. Sign in as a user with admin rights. If you’re not sure how to login, you can find [more information on logging in here](https://corridor1.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TCSD/pages/2285043736).

2. Click the Account Management icon on the shortcut menu

3. Navigate to Security> API access key> ‘Expiry’ to select how long the generated API Key should be valid for

4. Click ‘Generate’

> ℹ️ Ensure the API key is copied immediately, as it will not be displayed again in Cordel Connect for security reasons.
